Voilà un petit roman bien mené, avec des personnages qui évoluent au fil des pages. Pourtant l'histoire ne se déroule pas sur plusieurs années comme m'avait habituée Joyce Carol Oates. Ici, la trame s'installe sur quelques mois.

Cela ne m'étonne pas que ce soit ce livre qui ai fait connaître Toni Morrisson. Il est au-dessus des autres livres que j'ai lus d'elle: Home et Un don. Il est le paroxysme de son style.
